Elliott B. Lockhart
Elliott B. Lockhart, the Senior Partner of Lockhart & Co., was admitted to practice as Counsel and Attorney at The Bahamas Bar in 1978.
Mr. Lockhart practices in all aspects of Bahamian Law and his client base ranges from private persons to corporate entities within and beyond the Commonwealth of The Bahamas. His experience in and exposure to the Criminal, Corporate and Commercial fields particularly in the area of Development and Acquisitions, Mergers and Regulations are numerous.
As an experienced Advocate and Litigator of more than thirty (30) years, Mr. Lockhart appears as Counsel before all Courts and Tribunals in the Commonwealth of The Bahamas and has also appeared on several occasions before the Privy Council. His practice includes, but is not limited to Criminal and Civil Litigation, Commercial Litigation and Negotiations, Dispute Resolutions, Family Law, Real Property Transactions, Labour and Employment Law and Trusts and Administrative Law and Estate Planning.
Mr. Lockhart has made notable contributions not only to the Legal Profession but also to the Government of The Bahamas. Between 1992 and 1994, he served as Chairman of the Bahamas Gaming Board and in 1997 to 2002 he was appointed the Chairman of Nassau Flight Services. Between 1997 and 2002, Mr. Lockhart also served as a Member of Parliament for the Island of Exuma.
In 2008, the Governor General of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas appointed Mr. Lockhart to act as a Justice of the Supreme Court. This tenure was completed in 2009.
In maintaining his commitment to the development of the Legal Profession and the Administration of Justice, Mr. Lockhart is currently serving, and has since 1990 served, as Counsel and Prosecutor to the Disciplinary Tribunal of the Bahamas Bar. In addition, on the 4th January, 2010, the Governor General of The Bahamas has appointed Mr. Lockhart as Chairman of the Police Complaints Inspectorate.
